Updated December 15, 2023

The University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical Center will operate at severely reduced patient capacity from Saturday, December 16, 2023 until Wednesday January 3, 2024. During this time, the building’s electrical power infrastructure will be upgraded. The upgrade requires turning off electrical power to large portions of the veterinary medical center.

The outage will affect

  • lighting
  • heating
  • ventilation
  • air conditioning
  • electrical power to hospital equipment

Equipment affected includes

  • diagnostic imaging, such as radiographs, CT and MRI
  • laboratory instruments
  • necropsy
  • other equipment throughout the hospital.

This work is necessary but will substantially limit the number and type of patients we are able to manage during this period. We feel it is important to keep our hospital open to serve our clients, patients, and referring veterinarians but many of our services will not be able to see routine appointments during this time.

Our Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care director has compiled a list of regional veterinary emergency centers.

We have put together a list of regional veterinary specialty centers.

We have put together a list of local exotics and avian practices that offer day services and included regional centers that offer emergency services.

Our Pathology Service will not be able to process biopsies received between December 20 – January 1. They will also not be able to accept necropsies from December 26 – January 3. A list of alternative services is available.
